Studio Policy

Welcome to the Suzuki family! Our community strives for openness and to be welcoming to every new student and parent. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions about the program or its policies. For convenience, some important information is outlined here which you may find helpful. Please keep this policy on hand for personal reference. Thank You!

Lessons are offered once per week at a regularly scheduled time. 35 lessons will be taught in the 39 weeks from September through May. A break may be observed for one week during the week of Thanksgiving, for two weeks in December, and for one week in the Spring, at the teacher’s choosing. Summer Lessons from June through August will be considered a separate commitment, and can be coordinated between the teacher and each individual family.

Tuition will be due on a monthly basis, to be paid at or before the first lesson of the month.

Standard Tuition:
30 Minute Lessons - $120/month
45 Minute Lessons - $180/month
60 Minute Lessons - $240/month

In-Home Service Tuition:
30 Minute Lessons - $180/month
45 Minute Lessons - $270/month
60 Minute Lessons - $360/month

Attendance is incredibly important to a student’s development. Learning is constant and cumulative, and consistent lesson attendance is the #1 best route to success. I ask for everyone’s utmost regard for this. Lateness to a lesson is certainly understandable, however consistent lateness is detrimental to a student’s learning. Plan on arriving a few minutes before the lesson begins, and please call if you are running more than 10 minutes late. Late lessons will end at the usual time.

Make Up Lessons will not be permitted for lessons missed by the student for any reason (e.g. sporting events, forgot lesson/violin, didn’t practice, etc.) apart from special circumstances to be reviewed at the teacher’s discretion. Lessons missed by the teacher will be made up or credited. Everyone’s time is valuable, and the policy in place has been designed to reflect this ideal.

Inclement Weather cancellations will come into effect if the NYC public schools are closed. Not all cases of inclement weather can be listed here, but if there is a genuine concern about safely reaching your lesson, please feel free to call.

Clear Communication is so important to our work with one another, and I value openness and honesty. If you are confused by an assignment, concerned about something with your lessons, or have worries that you wish to express, I would encourage you to be open with them, and I will be as straightforward and honest as possible in addressing them.

Daily Practice is expected of every student at a minimum of 5 days per week. Without a daily follow-through of what was learned in lessons, a student’s progress is limited. The amount of time spent each day on the violin depends on the age and level of each student. It is best to schedule a daily practice time and develop a routine. It is understood that some days and weeks will be easier than others for accomplishing our practice goals. If you have questions or concerns about how practice time could and should be managed, please bring this up so that the student, parents and teacher are all on the same page.

Respectful Behavior is expected in the studio at all times. If, during a lesson, the student is unable to maintain this appropriately, they may not receive a full lesson. Family and friends accompanying the student into the studio should silence electronics and refrain from using them aside from lesson-related purposes (e.g. taking notes/video/pictures). You are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early or stay for a few minutes during another student’s lesson time, provided that you are quiet and respectful of the other lesson’s beginning or end. It can be very beneficial to watch how other students learn in a lesson.

I reserve the right to dismiss any student who consistently does not show appropriate improvement or attitude toward the work that we do. A family who consistently fails to make payments or otherwise acts with disregard to studio policies may be dismissed at the discretion of the teacher.

Thank You for the opportunity to help you or your child reach their full potential. You are always welcome to call, text, or e-mail me during the week with questions, thoughts, etc.
